Eddy-current testing (ECT) is one of many electromagnetic testing methods used in nondestructive testing (NDT) making use of electromagnetic induction to detect and characterize surface and sub-surface flaws in conductive materials. Eddy current testing is most commonly used to inspect surfaces and tubes. It is an incredibly sensitive testing method, and can identify even very small flaws or cracks in a surface or just beneath it. On surfaces, ETC can be done with both ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic materials.
